DHAKA: Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Qauder said all parties have to be ready for upcoming upazila polls, beginning from first week of March.

“We hope all the political parties, including BNP and Oikyafront, will participate in the upazila parishad elections”, Quader said at the beginning on joint meeting at AL’s Bangabandhu Avenue central office on Sunday (Jan 13).

“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had dialogues with 75 political parties ahead of the 11th Parliamentary election. She is now willing to sit with those parties who were invited for pre-polls dialogues” said the AL General Secretary.

Obaidul Quader further said that the premier will invite them to the Gono Bhaban soon to exchange views with them to run the country in consultation with all. 

Asked about Dr Kamal’s remark on his unawareness about Jamaat’s participation in election with symbol of ‘Sheaf of Paddy’, BNP’s poll symbol, Obaidul said it was a mistake of Dr Kamal to form an Oikya with BNP. All the countrymen know that Jamaat-e-Islami is the key ally of BNP-led 20-party alliance but Dr Kamal did not know it.

Presidents, general secretaries of district units AL, AL MPs and public representatives from districts nearby the capital city, joined the meeting, with Obaidul Quader in the chair.
