DHAKA: The High Court on Monday (Jan 14) granted BNP Standing committee member Mirza Abbas and his wife Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal President Afroza Abbas bail for eight weeks each, in a case filed over possessing illegal wealth.

The bench of Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice SM Kuddus Zaman passed the order after the couple appeared before the court to file pleas.
 
Senior lawyers AJ Mohammad Ali and Zainul Abedin moved for the couple while lawyer Khurshid Alam moved for the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), at the courtroom.

ACC Assistant Director Md Salahuddin filed the case with Shahjahanpur Police Station of Dhaka on Jan 7.

As per the case statement, Mirza Abbas and Afroza Abbas own illegal wealth worth around Tk 21 crore.
