DHAKA: Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court on Sunday (Jan 20) issued an arrest warrant against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in a case filed over hurting religious sentiment and inciting ethnical conflict.
Metropolitan Magistrate Jasim Uddin directed the authority concerned to submit the report on issuance of arrest warrant on Feb 28.
Jananetri Parishad President AB Siddiqui filed the case against the BNP chief on Oct 21, 2014.
On Jul 23 in 2018, Siddiqui’s lawyer Abul Kalam Azad pleaded for issuing arrest warrant against Khaleda Zia. The CMM court then set Jan 20 for the hearing.
As per the case statement, Khaleda Zia incited ethnical conflict by her remarks while exchanging greetings with the Hindu community members marking Shubho Bijoya at Institute of Engineers-Bangladesh (IEB) on Oct 14, 2014.
Khaleda Zia, however, landed in jail in Feb, 2018 in a graft case.
