DHAKA: Minister for Local Government, Rural Development & Cooperatives (LGRD) Md Tajul Islam said existing negligence and mismanagement will no longer be allowed to continue in Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (WASA).
"There were many negligence and mismanagement in Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (WASA). That state will no longer be allowed to continue," the LGRD minister was addressing a view-exchange meeting with WASA officials at WASA Bhaban in city’s Karwan Bazar on Thursday (Jan 23).
Addressing the WASA officials, the minister said, “The consequences will not be good if you are not careful about past mistakes. We want to go far away, wrongdoings will not be tolerated”.
“Due to the mismanagement, our growth has been hampered a lot. This will no longer be allowed here”, he added.
In the meeting, CBA leaders and activists were seen chanting various slogans against WASA MD.
In reply to a query of reporters regarding the matter, the minister said “In my first visit today, I saw this situation in WASA. I will listen to everyone… I want to work with everyone. If anybody involves in wrongdoing then action will be taken”.
Rural Development and Cooperative Department (LGRD) Senior Secretary SM Golam Faruk, managing director of Dhaka Wasa Engineer Taksim A Khan, were, among others present at the meeting.
