DHAKA: Awami League Advisory council member and PM’s political adviser HT Imam said upazila election, which is scheduled to begin from the first week of March, will be competitive as many political parties but BNP may vie the polls.
He was addressing a press conference at AL president’s political office in city’s Dhanmondi area on Friday (Jan 25). Earlier, Sub-committee of AL publicity and publication held a meeting here.
In reply to a query of a reporter, Hasan Mahmud, information minister and AL publicity and publication affairs secretary, said “BNP acted like a suicide boycotting the 2014 election. The same thing will be done if they do not participate in the upcoming Upazila elections”.
“If BNP does not join the polls, many of their leaders will vie the elections. BNP got feared to go to the polls for the huge defeat in the December 30 election. This is the key point. Who will take part in the election or who will not, it’s their personal matter. But the election will not be halted for anyone”, he added.
In the meeting of AL publicity and publication, Hasan Mahmud said 50 years’ anniversary of getting the title of 'Bangabandhu' by Father of the Nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman will be marked on February 22. To mark the day, a two-day exhibition and discussion meeting on Bangabandhu will begin at Shilpakala Academy on February 24.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has announced the Mujib Barsha from March 17, 2020 to March 17, 2021. On the occasion, the sub-committee of Awami League's publicity and publication has decided to release a publication containing the writings of various national and international writers.
Apart from this, a two-day workshop will be organized in April to involve the young generation in the implementation of Vision 2021 and Vision 2041 declared by Sheikh Hasina.
