KISHOREGANJ: Ruling Awami League candidate for Kishoreganj-1 constituency Dr Syeda Zakia Noor Lilpi submitted her nomination form to the returning office.
She handed over her nomination form to Jahirul Islam, acting deputy commissioner of Kishoreganj, at returning officer’s office on Wednesday (Jan 30).
Sources at returning officer’s office confirmed the matter to Banglanews.
Dr Zakia Noor was flanked by her cousin Syed Ashfakul Islam Titu, leaders who propose or support her nomination, senior leaders of District AL, while submitting her nomination form.
AL candidate Dr Zakia Noor is daughter of Syed Nazrul Islam, the acting President of Bangladesh during the Liberation War, and younger sister of late Syed Ashraful Islam.
As per the schedule, the voting to Kishoreganj-1 constituency will be held on February 28, the last date for submission of nomination paper has been fixed January 31, while nomination scrutiny on February 3 and last date for nomination withdrawal on February 10.
The constituency fell vacant after the death of former Awami League general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam. He was reelected MP in the December 30 national election. But he could not take oath due to illness and sought time to the Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury for oath.
