DHAKA: The BNP has decided to hold a rally at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital on February 8 (Friday), demanding unconditional release of party Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, BNP senior joint secretary general, announced the programme at a press briefing at the party's Nayapaltan central office on Thursday (Jan 31).
The BNP leader said they had already sought permission from the authorities concerned -- Suhrawardy Udyan authorities and Dhaka Metropolitan Police-- for holding the programme.
Different associate bodies of the party are taking preparation ahead of the rally, said Rizvi, urging all leaders and activists of BNP and its associate bodies to be ready to make the rally a success.
BNP Chief Khaleda Zia has been staying the jail since February 8 after a special court sentenced her to five years' rigorous imprisonment in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
