DHAKA: The Awami League began selling nomination forms at its Dhanmondi office on Monday (Feb 4) to pick candidates for 87 upazila councils in the local government body elections, slated for March 10.
The party general secretary, Obaidul Quader, formally inaugurated the selling of forms for the first phase of upazila elections at the party president Sheikh Hasina’s Dhanmondi political office in the capital on Monday (Feb 4).
Obaidul Quader handed over a nomination form to Asadul Huq, one of the hopefuls for the chairman post in the Kendua upazila parishad.
Meanwhile, a good number of leaders and activists of Awami League from different upazilas crowded in and around the party office since Monday morning to collect nomination papers.
Aspirant candidates can collect forms till February 7. Within this time, aspirants have collect forms and submit those to party head office.
Voting to 87 upazilas in 12 districts in upcoming fifth Upazila Council Elections will be held on March 10 in first phase, as per the election schedule announced by Election Commission Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed at a press conference on Sunday (Feb 3).
The deadline for the submission of nominations is February 11. While the date for nomination scrutiny is February 12, the last date for the withdrawal of candidature is February 19 and the voting day is March 10.
