GAZIPUR: A bus driver and a truck driver, victims of Jamaat hartal violence, succumbed to their injuries on Monday after four-day fighting for life.

The deceased were identified as Nazrul Islam Bhuian 35, resident of Haydrabad village of the district and Sikander, from Gazia area of Shariatpur upazila.

Sources said that during the second day of Jamaat called 48-hour hartal, Shibir activists torched the bus when Nazrul was on the driving seat, leaving him burnt critically.

He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital’s Burnt Unit where he died Monday.

The doctors said that around 65 percent of his body was burnt.

A case was filed with Joydevpur Thana against 16 persons in this connection.

Joydevpur Thana Inspector (Investigation) Jahidul Islam confirmed the matter to banglanews.

In another incident, on September 18 night, truck driver Sikander was burnt while going to Chittagong with a goods-laden truck.

Shibir activists torched the truck on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Amjader Bazar area under Chauddagram upazila of Comilla district, reported banglanews correspondent.

Burnt Sikander was rushed to Chauddagram Health Complex from where after primary treatment he was shifted to the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital for better treatment. Later, he died under treatment.

Doctors of Chauddagram Health Complex informed that 85 percent of Sikander’s body was burnt.

Police filed a case with Chauddagram Thana in this connection naming 59 Jamaat-Shibir men and 45 unknown persons.
