DUCSU election schedule announced, voting March 11

DHAKA: The Dhaka University (DU) authorities on Monday (Feb 11) announced the schedule of DU Central Students Union (Ducsu) and hall unions’ elections. 

According to poll schedule, the voting to DUCSU and its hall sangsad elections will be held on March 11 (Sunday), the date for collection of nomination papers had been fixed February 19-25, while nomination submission and  scrutiny on February 26, and last date for nomination withdrawal on February 28.

Chief Returning officer of DUCSU polls Professor Dr SM Mahfuzur Rahman declared the schedule at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban this morning.

Returning officers were, among others, also present at the programme.
 
The voting will begin at 8:00am and end at 2:00pm on the day at respective halls to elect their 25 representatives.

Draft list of voters will be released on Dhaka University website and dormitories later on the day. Final list of voters will be released on February 20, according to the poll schedule. 

After scrutiny, primary list of candidates will be released on university website and notice board on March 3.

Earlier on January 23, DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman announced the voting date for the DUCSU election after holding two separate meetings.

The Vice-Chancellor held a meeting with provosts of halls of the university regarding the DUCSU polls and its hall sangsad elections at the lounge adjacent to the VC office at 3:30pm and another one with Advisory Council on DUCSU polls at the same venue around 4:30pm on the day.

After the meetings, VC Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman fixed March 11 as voting day for DUCSU polls.
    
DUCSU election has been stalled for 27 years due to internal conflict among political student organisations.
