DHAKA: Election Commissioner Mahbub Talukdar said democracy is never a one-party system. If there is no multi-party process, democracy does not get institutional shape.
He was briefing the Returning Officers (RO) and Assistant Returning Officers over the upazila elections in city’s Agargaon area on Thursday (February 14).
“Democracy is never one-party system. If there is no multi-party process, democracy does not get institutional shape. Therefore, it is always important to be holding elections participatory. However, participatory election is the absolutely primary achievement of the commission”. Mahbub Talukdar said.
“The election is to be held in credible and acceptable manners. The two words are to evaluate by the people not those who participated in the election”, the election commissioner said.
He further said “It is necessary to make people more confident about election management. It must be ensured. Whatever the political situation of the country, the election should be held in free and fair manner”.
The Election Commission is never wished any controversial or questionable election, said Mahbub Talukdar
