DHAKA: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda said several large political parties including BNP aren’t participating in the upcoming upazila parishad elections making it disappointing to the Election Commission (EC).
“It’s unfortunate news for the EC. Yet the elections will be competitive; because, it’s the elections of local government. This kind of elections takes place competitive as local persons become candidates,” he said.
The CEC, as the chief guest, was speaking at a training of trainers (TOT) workshop, at Election Training Institute (ETI) in Agargaon of the capital city Sunday (Feb 17).
He directed the trainers to act non-biased and appropriate in the upazila parishad elections.
ETI Director General Mostofa Faruq and other higher officials of the EC attended the workshop.
