JATIYA SANGSAD: Liberation War affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque told parliament that a total of 1700 foreigners will be honored for their contribution in liberation war in 1971.
He said 339 foreign personalities, including former Prime Minister of India Indira Gandhi, have already been honored so far.
The minister, in reply to a question of Major (retd) Rafiqul Islam MP (Chandpur-5 constituency) during Sunday’s sitting, informed the matter to the Parliament.
AKM Mozammel Haque also said Bangladesh government honours foreigners with three awards — Swadhinata Sommanona, Muktijuddho Sommanona and Muktijuddho Moitri Sommanona.
Swadhinata Sommanona is the country's highest civilian award to the foreigners.
Apart from Indira Gandi, former Indian President Pranab Mukherjee and former Indian prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee were also honored with Swadhinata Sommanona.
