DHAKA: A court here will pronounce its order on March 20 in a case filed against BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia over her ‘derogatory remarks’ on Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Awami League.
Judge Ziaur Rahman of Dhaka Chief metropolitan Magistrate, on Monday (Feb 25) set the date after concluding arguments of both sides.
Earlier on January 25, 2017 AB Siddique, president of Bangladesh Jananetri Parishad, filed the defamation case with a Dhaka court.
Later on June 30, Jafar Ali Biswas, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Shahbagh police Station, submitted the report citing that the allegation brought against the BNP chief was found true.
On July 16 last year, AB Siddique’s lawyer filed a petition seeking arrest warrant against Khaleda Zia.
According to the complaint, Khaleda Zia, at a programme on December 31, 2016, said Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman wanted to be the prime minister of undivided Pakistan rather than leading Bangladesh (the then East Pakistan) to independence.
Moreover, the Awami League government, in the name of development, looted a large amount of money by delaying the work of flyovers and Padma Bridge.
Through uttering such remarks, made by the BNP chief, defamed the image of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as well as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
