DHAKA: Awami League-nominated mayor candidate for Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Atiqul Islam on Thursday (February 28) urged voters to exercise their balloting power braving rains.
“I, along with all, want to develop Dhaka for all. If you all vote in the election, then it will be possible to build a clean, dynamic Dhaka,” he was talking to reporters after casting his vote at Habibullah Model School & College around 9:30am.
Voting in by-election to Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has begun amid tight security measures and festivity.
In reply to a query from reporter, the former president of BGMEA said “If everyone took part in the election, the election would have become a festival. But if some party did not contest in the polls, then there is nothing to do.”
The balloting began at 8:00am and will continue till 4:00pm.
Expressing his hope to win the election, Atiqul Islam said “If you come to the polling centers and vote me, then I am cent percent optimistic about victory.
In the mayoral race, five candidates are contesting the DNCC by-polls.
The candidates are ruling Awami League candidate Atiqul Islam, Jatiya Party candidate Shafin Ahmed while Anisur Rahman Dewan from National People's Party, Shahin Khan from Progressive Democratic Party, and independent candidate Abdur Rahim.
