Shafin blames ‘irregularities’ for low voter turnout DNCC Mayor candidate Shafin Ahmed talks to reporters.

DHAKA: Mayor candidate Shafin Ahmed alleged the trend of irregularities in the recent national-level elections has discouraged people to cast votes in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) polls.

“Voters have lost interest for irregularities in the recent elections,” he said.

“I have observed irregularities in several polling centers I have visited since the morning”

“I’m on the field. Will talk to the reporters about the matters of irregularities, in the afternoon,” said the Jatiya Party’s mayor candidate after casting his ballot at Manarat Dhaka International School & College Thursday (Feb 28) noon.

“Voter turnout isn’t remarkable. Such was the extent of irregularities in several past elections that voters have turned away. (They have) lost interest to cast votes,” added musician-turned-politician Shafin Ahmed.

Jatiya Party’s Shafin Ahmed, Awami League’s Atiqul Islam, National People's Party’s Anisur Rahman Dewan, Progressive Democratic Party’s Shahin Khan and independent Abdur Rahim are contesting in DNCC mayoral by-elections taking place Thursday.
