DHAKA: Gonoforum lawmakers-elect Sultan Muhammad Monsur Ahmed and Mokabbir Khan will take oath on March 7 to join the 11th parliament.
The swearing-in ceremony will be held around 11:00am on the day, said sources at Jatiya Sangsad Speaker’s office.
Earlier on Saturday (March 2), the newly elected MPs have sent letters to Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Choudhury expressing their desire to take oath.
Speaker’s office received the letter on Sunday (Mar 3) and set Thursday (March 7) for taking oath by the duo ---Sultan Mohammad Mansur (Moulvibazar-2) and Mokabbir Khan (Sylhet-2).
He said that people elected him to join parliament and he is doing just that.
Sultan Monsur was elected lawmakers from Moulvibazar-2 constituency as candidate of Oikyafront and Mokabbir Khan was elected from Sylhet-2 as Gonoforum candidate.
Oikyafront has secured eight seats, including two from Gonoforum, in the 11th general elections held on December 30, 2018.
This is the first time any Gonoforum leader won in the national election since formation of the party in 1999.
Later, lawmakers-elect took oath as members of the 11th parliament on January 3.
Under article 67 (1) (a) of the constitution, lawmakers can take oath within 90 days from the date of the first sitting of the House. That means, they can take oath within April 30.
