DHAKA: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said the party was given assurance from the government on providing proper treatment for the jailed party chief Khaleda Zia.
He revealed the development after leading a six-member BNP team in a meeting with Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal Tuesday (Mar 5).
“BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s physical condition isn’t good. We have pleaded for her proper treatment, to the government through the home minister. He (Kamal) has listened to all our words attentively,” said Fakhrul.
“We hope he will keep all our words. He has informed (us) about initiating highest steps for proper treatment of Khaleda Zia,”
Apart from Khaleda Zia’s illness, several other matters were also discussed in the meeting, Fakhrul added.
The six-member team includes BNP Standing committee members Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Mirza Abbas, Nazrul Islam Khan, Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan and Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury.
However, another BNP team sat with Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal with the demand of the party chief’s treatment in Sept last year.
Khaleda Zia was jailed for five years in a graft case in Feb, 2018.
She has been suffering various physical illnesses since earlier.
