AL ex MP Rana gets bail

DHAKA: The High Court granted former Awami League MP Amanur Rahman Khan Rana bail for six months in a case filed over killing two Jubo League leaders.

The bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice SM Mujibur Rahman issued the order Wednesday (Mar 6).

The state, however, delayed the hearing till Monday in another case filed over freedom fighter Faruq murder against the Tangail-3 former lawmaker.

Deputy Attorney General Dr Md Bashir Ullah moved for the state while lawyer Monsurul Haq Chowdhury moved for the bail plea, at the courtroom.

Rana was earlier granted bail by the High Court on Apr 13, 2017, in freedom fighter Faruq murder case.

The Appellate Division stayed the bail following a plea from the state.

Two Jubo League leaders of Tangail sadar upazila’s Baghil union unit were killed in 2012. A case was filed on Sept 21 in the same year.

On Jan 18 in 2013, freedom fighter and Awami League's Tangail District Committee member Faruk Ahmed was shot dead. Later a case was filed in this connection accusing MP Rana and others.

A Tangail court sent Rana to jail on Sept 18, 2016, in Faruq murder case.
