GAZIPUR: Police detained as many as 32 persons over violating electoral codes of upzila parishad polls in Sreepur of Gazipur.

All of the detainees are leaders and activists of Sreepur upazila unit Awami League, said police.

Identities of them, however, couldn’t be known immediately. 

“Voting of Sreepur upazila polls will be held on Sunday (March 24). 32 leaders and activists of Awami League have been detained for running election campaign for the Awami League candidate by breaching electoral codes,” Sreepur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Jabed Islam told Banglanews.

Legal action against them is underway, he added.

However, polls to 117 upazilas including Sreepur will be held on Sunday.
