Manikganj presiding officer held over ‘vote rigging’

MANIKGANJ: Police arrested a presiding officer on charge of casting fake votes in the polls to Daulatpur upazila parishad of Manikganj Sunday (March 24).

Ruhul Amin, the arrestee, is an assistant teacher at Khord Chhatian Govt Primary School in Daulatpur.

He was attempting to cast fake votes after tearing off ballot papers in the polling center installed at Jionpur Kha Para Govt Primary School around 9:30am, said Assistant Returning Officer and Daulatpur upazila polling officer Abdul Momin.

However, polls to 117 upazilas across the country began at 8am Sunday.
