CHATTOGRAM: The result of the election of Chandanish upazila parishad was announced Sunday (March 24) night unofficially postponing the chairman post.

Senior District Election Officer Md Munir Hossain Khan told Banglanews that the election commission will announce the date of re-polling in two centers in Chandanaish in which voting had been suspended. 

On Sunday (March 24), a police official suffered bullet injuries in an attack launched by miscreants at a polling centre in Chandanaish upazila of Chattogram during the third phase upazila elections 

The incident took place at Purbo Chandanaish Government Primary School around 9:30am when a gang of miscreants attacked polling centre to take control of it, said Keshab Chakrabarty, officer-in-charge of Chandanaish Police Station.

Sans two centres, Independent candidate and incumbent chairman Abdul Jabbar Chowdhury got 22,227 votes with ink pot-pen symbol. His nearest rival Awami League nominated candidate AKM Nazim Uddin got 19, 674 votes with the boat symbol.

Islami Front nominated candidate Maulana Solaiman Farooqi (Candle symbol) was unofficially elected vice chairman, bagging 22,808 votes while female Vice-Chairman-elect Awami League-backed advocate Kamela Khanam Rupa (Butterfly symbol) got 23, 966 votes.
