CHITTAGONG: Police in a drive held 30 suspected Shibir activists from DC hill area under Kotwali thana of the port city on Wednesday morning.

Kotwali Thana Officer-in-Charge AKM Mahiuddin Selim told banglanews, “Acting on a tip off that Shibir men were preparing for subversive acts and police held them from DC hill area at around 10:30am.”

The OC also said that the detainees were sent to police station. Necessary steps will be taken after interrogation.

Additional police forces were deployed in the area, he added.

Earlier on Tuesday, at least 34 leaders and activists of Chhatra Shibir including its port city unit president and secretary were held from its Chandanpura office under Kotwali Thana.

Protesting the arrest, Shibir called half-day hartal in the district for Thursday in the district and protest rally in city and all upazila Sadar on Wednesday.
