DHAKA: Election Commission Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed said by election for Bogra-6 constituency will be held soon after Eid-ul-Fitr.

“As per the law, voting shall be arranged for a seat within 90 days after it falls vacant. We informed the commission about it. Schedule for the polls will be announced Soon,” EC secretary told reporters on Sunday (May 5).

He said, “This election will be staged immediately after the Eid.  We want to do it soon, because rains will grow more in July. Therefore, we’ll arrange election by June.”

On April 30, The Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury announced “The Bogura-6 constituency fell vacant as Fakhrul failed to take his oath within the 90 days.”

Regarding oath, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, “Rumors have surfaced that I sought time to take oath as an MP from Bogra-6 constituency. Actually, I did not send any letters to the speaker nor did I seek time. This is also our party decision. It’s our strategy.”
