Left Democratic Alliance stages demo with 9-point demand The human chain.

DHAKA: Leaders and activists of Left Democratic staged demonstration to realize their 9-point demand including profitable paddy price for farmers and payment of due salaries to jute mill workers.

The demands were made at a human chain formed in front of Jatiya Press Club around 12:45pm Sunday (May 19).

Left Democratic Alliance Coordinator Bazlur Rashid, Biplobi Workers' Party central leaders Saiful Huq, Julfikar Atiqul and Foyzul Huq, among others, took part in the human chain chaired by Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) central leader Aniruddha Das.

"Importing rice rather than ensuring people's food safety is suicidal. Paddy must be bought from the farmers with 40 percent subsidy and then should be sold to the consumers," Bazlur Rashid told the human chain.

Protesting a recent remark of Agriculture Minister Abdur Razzak, Rashid asked him to resign if the minister can't increase paddy price.

Afterwards, the leaders and activists of the alliance brought out a rally that ended at the Dainik Bangla Intersection.
