Shibir-cop clash in Rajshahi: 4 held

RAJSHAHI: Activists of Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, locked into clash in new market area of the divisional city on Friday noon.

After the clash, law enforcers in a drive held four people.

Boalia Model police station Officer-in-Charge Ziaur Rahman Zia told banglanews, “Shibir activists brought out a brisk procession at around 12:45pm demanding the release of their leaders and police protest them.

Being obstructed by law enforcers, Shibir men hurled huge brick-chips and blasted cocktails targeting tem.

In retaliation, police dispersed the Shibir procession by firing tear shells, rubber bullets and sound grenades.

Following the incident, Shibir spread propaganda that five Shibir men were injured but any evidence was not found.

Additional law enforcers were deployed in the area, the OC added.

Earlier on Thursday, Rajshahi Metropolitan Chhatra Shibir threatened to call hartal for Sunday if Rajshahi University Chhatra Shibir Secretary Saifuddin Yahia and other leaders were not released.
