Polls impossible under partisan govt

DHAKA: opposition BNP standing committee member Barrister Moudud Ahmed on Thursday categorically said Awami League would realize that it is not possible to hold general election under partisan government.

The senior leader of the party came up with the assertion while addressing a discussion at the National Press Club.

Barrister Moudud said, “There was free and fair polls from 1991 to 2006. But Awami League called 173-day hartal to introduce caretaker government.”

He added: “Then AL claimed that it is not possible to hold any fair election without non-party government and at present and BNP also thinks so.”

The senior leader also added: “Awami League could carry development activities instead of torture on opposition. But they do not do it. Very soon they will understand that election under political government is impossible.”

Regarding the next general elections, the senior lawyer of the Supreme Court said, “Awami league will be ostracized if they try to hold election lonely.”
