AL wins Barguna-2 by-poll

BARGUNA: Ruling Awami League candidate Shakawat Hachanur Rahman Riman won Barguna-2 by-polls on Thursday.

According to the unofficial results from 96 centers, Awami League candidate Rezwan Ahmed Towfiq bagged 65,813 votes while the nearest contester Golam Sarwar Hiru got 57,993 votes.

On Thursday, returning officer Mostafa Faruk declared the result at around 9:45pm.

Earlier in the day, the voting was underway from 8:00am to 4:00pm at 528 booths in the 96 polling centers under three upazilas—Patharghata, Bamna and Betagi where male voters were 122788 and female voters were 118385.

On July 26, the parliamentary seat for the constituency became vacant when the Member of Parliament (MP) Golam Sabur Tulu died in a road accident.
