Grenades blast in Hefajat madrasa

CHITTAGONG: A number of hand grenades were found at a madrasa, run by Hefazat-e-Islam leader Mufti Izharul Islam Chowdhury, in Lalkhanbazar of the port city of Chittagong on Monday.

Meanwhile, police conducted a drive in the madrasa hostel and adjacent areas after finding some clues that grenades explosion rocked Jameyatul Ulum Al Islamia Madrasa that left five students injured critically.

Chittagong Metropolitan Police Commissioner M Shafiqul Islam told reporters: “Police found explosive materials as hand made grenade in the hostel.”

He added: “Immediate initiatives have been taken to detain culprits involved in the incident.”  

Sources said a deadly explosion occurred in the dormitory of Lalkhanbazar Madrasa, leaving five students injured around 11:00am.

Later, law enforcers arrested four injured students from different hospitals and clinics of the port city.
