DHAKA: Newly-elected Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh assumed office on Saturday (May 16).
DSCC chief executive officer Shah Md Imdadul Huq formally handed over the charge to Fazle Noor Taposh around 1:00pm.
However, incumbent mayor Sayeed Khokon was not present during the ceremony.
Mayor Fazle Noor Taposh is expected to address a press conference online around 3:00pm as the DSCC will not organise any programme marking the occasion due to the ongoing coronavirus situation.
Awami League’s Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh and Atiqul Islam clinched sweeping victories over the BNP’s Ishraque Hossain and Tabith Awal respectively at the recent mayoral elections.
The ruling party-nominated candidates emerged victorious at both city corporation polls held on February 1, though with only 30 percent of voters registered.
Though the newly-elected mayors and councillors of DNCC and DSCC took oath for office on February 26, they had to wait until completion of the tenures of incumbent mayors.
