Mohammad Nasir, cultural affairs secretary of Chattogram City South Awami League and former vice-president of BGMEA, said the soil of Patiya is not safe under leadership of Jatiya Sangsad Whip Shamsul Haque Chowdhury, his son Nazmul Karim Chowdhury Sharun and other family members.
He made the remarks exchanging views with journalists at a restaurant in Patiya Friday night.
“The whip family has turned Patiya into a controversial upazila of the country. Awami League government is allocating huge money for development of the place. But corruption of the Whip family is obstructing every development projects. The people of Patiya want Tk 1,156 crore project to be implemented under the supervision of the Army,” he said.
About political monopoly by lawmaker from Patiya Shamsul Haque Chowdhury, he said “There may be difference of opinion in the politics but it does not mean that whip family will not allow other people of the locality to be affiliated with ruling Awami League."
People of Patiya are being united against Jatiya Sangsad whip Shamsul Haque Chowdhury and his son Nazmul Karim Chowdhury Sharun and tough movement is gaining ground, he opined.
The people of Patiya want a change in the leadership and they are determined not to forgive the family which tarnished image of the constituency.
Referring to persecution of freedom fighter by Whip family, Mohammad Nasir said Shamsul Haque Chowdhury, his son Nazmul Karim Chowdhury Sharun and brother Nawab Chowdhury threatened Patiya Upazila freedom fighter commander and Awami League leader Samsuddin Ahmed for raising voice against their corruption and misdeeds.
He demanded immediate arrest and other legal action against the whip and others involved in issuance of threat to the freedom fighter.
Mohammad Nasir also called upon the journalists of Patiya to stand beside common people in fight against the corruption and misrule of a single family.
Senior leaders of Chattogram city Awami League MA Zafar, Master Sirajul Islam, Mozaherul Islam Chowdhury, freedom fighter Mozammel Haque, district Awami League leader Selim Nabi, former general secretary of Upazila Awami League Md Nasir Uddin, Nazim Uddin and Mohiuddin Mohi were also present on the occasion.
