Pran Gopal Datta, a former vice chancellor of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, was elected unopposed in Comilla 7 by-polls.

Md Dulal Talukder, the returning officer and regional election officer, issued a public notice on Monday morning in this regard.

The seat fell vacant on July 30 after Ali Ashraf, then MP of the constituency, died at a hospital in Dhaka.

The by-poll was scheduled to be held on October 7.
