A case was filed against Mufti Kazi Ibrahim, a preacher known for his controversial speeches, under the Digital Security Act (DSA) with Mohammadpur Police Station in the capital.
An official of Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) filed the case.
The police station OC Abdul Latif confirmed the matter on Wednesday afternoon.
He said the case was filed over incendiary comments made by Ibrahim on social media.
On Tuesday night, one ZM Rana filed a case against him bringing allegations of embezzlement, extortion and fraud involving a school.
He will be produced before a Dhaka court with a remand petition for interrogation, OC Abdul Latif added.
A team of the DB detained Mufti Ibrahim from his Lalmatia residence in the capital early Tuesday.
Additional Commissioner of Police and DB Chief AKM Hafiz Akter earlier said Mufti Ibrahim allegedly delivered fabricated information in his discourse on Facebook and YouTube.
