A Dhaka court placed controversial Islamic preacher Mufti Kazi Ibrahim on a two-day remand in a case filed under the Digital Security Act (DSA) for delivering fabricated information on social media.

Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Sufian Md Noman passed the order after police produced him before the court with ten day remand prayer.

Earlier, two separate cases were filed against Mufti Kazi Ibrahim at Mohammadpur Police Station – one under the Digital Security Act and the other for embezzlement and fraud.

The fraud case was filed by an individual named ZM Rana, while the Digital Security Act case was filed by the police Detective Branch.

The case filed by Rana accuses Ibrahim of embezzlement, extortion and fraud involving a school.

The Digital Security Act case was filed over incendiary comments made by Ibrahim on social media.

Detective Branch (DB) of police detained controversial Islamic preacher Mufti Kazi Ibrahim from his Mohammadpur residence in the capital on Tuesday.

Additional Commissioner of Police and DB Chief AKM Hafiz Akter earlier said Mufti Ibrahim allegedly delivered fabricated information in his discourse on Facebook and YouTube.
