At least three people were killed and 20 injured in a clash between the activists of two member candidates over establishing supremacy centring election to Alokbani Union Parishad of Sadar upazila of Narsingdi.
The deceased were identified as Amir Hossain, 46, Ashraful, 22, and Khushi Begum, 50. All were the residents of village Alokbali of Narsingdi Sadar upazila.
Narsingdi Additional SP (Crime) Saheb Ali Pathan confirmed the matter.
He said ruling Awami League candidate Abul Khayer and his rival candidate Ripon Mia, had been at loggerheads for a long time.
On Thursday morning, Ripon and his supporters, armed with guns and sharp weapon, suddenly attacked the supporters of Abul, triggering a deadly clash in at village Alokbali, he said.
Upon information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
Three people were shot to death on the spot while some injured were taken to Dhaka for better treatment, he added.
The election to Alokbani Union Parishad of Sadar upazila of Narsingdi is slated for on November 28.
