Khaleda Zia diagnosed with liver cirrhosis

Former prime minister and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chairperson Khaleda Zia has been diagnosed with liver cirrhosis, said her doctor Dr. Samsul Arefin.

He said: "There is no treatment for this disease in the country, though it is being treated in some specialized hospitals in Europe and America."

The physician came up with the development while briefing journalists about her health condition Sunday evening.

Khaleda Zia's personal medical team head Dr FM Siddiqui said, "We are worried that if she bleeds in his stomach again, then we won't have the supporting technology to stop it. In that case, there would be the risk of death."

Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain, Professor Dr. AQM Mohsin, Professor Dr. Nur Uddin and Khaleda Zia's personal physician Al Mamun were also attended the press meet.

Khaleda Zia, who was convicted in the Zia Orphanage and Zia Charitable Trust corruption cases, was admitted to the Evercare Hospital in the capital more than once after being released on an executive order by the government.

The BNP chairperson was last admitted to Evercare Hospital on November 13 under cardiologist Shahabuddin Talukder. A six-member medical board has also been formed for her treatment there.
