A 10-member team of the ruling Awami League, led by party chief Sheikh Hasina started talks with President M Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban in the capital.

At the fag-end of the ongoing “Presidential Dialogue’’ with country’s registered political parties, Awami League sat today, on the 17th day at the Durbar Hall here. 
 
Other members of the 10-member delegation are:  AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader, advisory council members Amir Hossain Amu and Tofail Ahmed, presidium members Begum Matia Chowdhury, Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim, Dr Mohammad Abdur Razzaque, Lieutenant Colonel (Retd) Muhammad Faruk Khan, Jahangir Kabir Nanak and Abdur Rahman.

With the tenure of the current Election Commission (EC), led by the Chief Election Commissioner Nurul Huda expiring on February 14, the president started inviting registered political parties from December 2 for talks to form a new one.

According to the EC data, a total of 39 political parties are registered, of which the president has invited 32 parties to the talks.

On December 20, the first day of the ongoing dialogue with the political parties, President Hamid started a dialogue with the Jatiya Party, the main opposition in the Jatiya Sangsad (Parliament).

Meanwhile, a total of seven political parties, including the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), refrained from taking part in the dialogue.
