60-hr hartal begins amid violence

DHAKA: The 60-hour nonstop nationwide hartal, called by the BNP-led 18-party alliance, began on Sunday morning amid stray incidents of violence.

The opposition alliance is observing the shutdown despite the Prime Minister’s request to withdraw it.

The hartal will continue till 6pm Tuesday.

BNP-Jamaat men blasted couple of cocktails in different city parts.

However, hartal supporters torched six BRTC buses in capital’s Gabtoli area.

Law enforcers have taken tight security to avert BNP-Jamaat violence.

Huge contingent of law enforcers were seen in different key points of capital.

Regarding the matter, city police addistion commissioner (CRime) Ibrahim Fatemi told banglanews, “Stick action will be taken if anyone tries to create subversive acts.”
