A Dhaka court has ordered to send BNP leader engineer Ishraque Hossain to jail in a case filed under the Special Power Act.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Tamanna Farah passed the order on Wednesday (April 6) rejecting his bail petition.

Earlier in the morning, Ishraque, son of late Dhaka mayor and BNP leader Sadeque Hossain Khoka, was picked up by Motijheel thana police from Shapla Chattar area in the capital around 11:30 am. He was distributing leaflets protesting the price hike of daily essentials.

According to police sources, he was arrested as per an arrest warrant issued against him in the Special Power Act case filed in 2020.

Ishraque contested in the Dhaka South City Corporation election in 2020 as the party’s mayoral candidate.
