BNP leader Ishraque Hossain, was granted bail today – six days after he was sent to jail in an arson case.

Dhaka's Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Tofazzal Hossain issued the order after his lawyer appealed for his bail.

As there is no other case against him, there is no bar to his release from jail, Ishraque's lawyer Taherul Islam Touhid said.

On April 6, Ishraque Hossain was arrested from Motijheel of the capital while distributing leaflets protesting price hike of daily essentials.

After that, police said Ishraque was a warranted accused in a case filed Motijheel Police Station under the Special Powers Act in 2020 on charge of creating violence.

The court denied his bail and sent him to jail after he had been produced before the court in the case.
