A Dhaka court has sent Dhaka-7 lawmaker Haji Mohammad Salim to jail rejecting his bail petition in connection with a graft case.
Judge Shahidul Islam of Dhaka's Special Judge's Court-7 passed the order on Sunday afternoon.
Earlier on Sunday, ruling Awami League MP Haji Mohammad Salim convicted of 10 years of imprisonment in a corruption case surrendered to the lower court in Dhaka.
He has returned home from Thailand on May 5 amid controversy over his leaving the country for treatment.
Being convicted in a graft case, Haji Salim left Dhaka for Bangkok in the name of treatment ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr secretly on April 29.
He has been at the risk of losing his membership of parliament since the High Court confirmed his 10-year jail term in March 2021 in an illegal wealth accumulation case filed one and a half decades ago.
Parliament has not yet decided on his membership.
