Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has blamed the government for the recent price hike of essential commodities.
He said: "Today the price of the bread has doubled. The price of rice has already increased by Tk 10/Tk15 per Kg.
The BNP secretary general made the allegation at a function held in the capital on Thursday (June 2).
Mirza Fakhrul said that the problem of the government is that they want to make profit from everything including food, which is the basic need of the people.
Reminding the famine situation of 1974, Fakhrul said that the incident occurred only for misrule and corruption. Today, in the same manner, they are unfairly increasing the prices of food grains by hoarding the items.
The BNP leader also claimed that the government artificially created a crisis in the nation and hiking the price of the commodities.
Local leaders including BNP’s health secretary, Rafiqul Islam, Social Welfare Secretary Kamruzzaman Ratan, Dhaka Metropolitan South BNP Member Secretary Rafiqul Alam Majnu, Joint Convener Yunus Mridha, Chairperson's Press Wing Member Shairul Kabir Khan were present in the event.
