Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s (BNP) Standing Committee member, former minister, and former mayor of Dhaka Mirza Abbas has been detained at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

Afroza Abbas his wife alleged that he was detained at the airport immigration department when he returned to Bangladesh after treatment on Friday (June 10) evening.

She told banglanews that her family members landed in Dhaka on a Bangladesh Biman flight at 6:10 pm. Immigration authorities then detained all their family members with their passports. They have been sitting at the airport for about an hour and a half.

"Every time we are being harassed at the airport," said Afroza Abbas, adding, He was allowed to leave for Singapore on May 24 after long detention. 

Mirza Abbas was admitted to Bangladesh Specialized Hospital in Shyamoli on May 18 after suffering from a stomach ailment. As his condition did not improve, he was taken to Singapore on May 24 for advanced treatment. Mirza Abbas returned to the country as his physical condition improved.
