Khaleda needs court permission for overseas treatment: Home Minister

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has said that court permission is needed to take BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia abroad for treatment.

He said: "If Khaleda Zia wants to go abroad for treatment, she will have to take court permission through legal procedure."

Asaduzzaman Khan made the remarks at a programme at the Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDEB) building at Kakrail in Dhaka on Saturday (June 11).

Home Minister further said that Khaleda Zia is currently a convict in a case.

The Prime Minister has arranged for her treatment as per the decision of the court, he said, adding that if she needs to go abroad for treatment, she has to go through the court.

Earlier in the day, the medical board at Evercare Hospital said that BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia suffered a coronary heart attack.

Medical Board constituted for her treatment said she needs better treatment following the heart attack, said BNP Chairperson’s personal physician Professor AZM Zahid Hossain.

He said the board requested family members of Khaleda Zia to take her abroad for treatment.

Zahid Hossain further said that BNP Chairperson’s angiogram has been completed at the Evercare Hospital and stenting was done on an artery with 95 percent blockage and a ring has been put on it this afternoon.

Party Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir urged the country’s people to pray for her speedy recovery.

The party chief had a ‘routine’ health check-up at the private hospital on April 6.

Khaleda Zia has been suffering from various ailments, including liver cirrhosis, arthritis, diabetes, kidney, lung and eye problems.
