Doctors can be brought from abroad for Khaleda: Quader

Awami League (AL) General Secretary Obaidul Quader said doctors can be brought from abroad for treatment of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, if necessary.

Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, made the remark in a press conference held at the AL’s Bangabandhu Avenue central office in the capital Dhaka on Saturday (June 11).

He further said: "Khaleda Zia was not released by Mirza Fakhrul’s movement. Because of the generosity and humanity of Sheikh Hasina, Khaleda Zia is free and staying at home."

There is no difficulty in her treatment, he said, adding that doctors can be brought from abroad, if necessary, as there is no problem.

Earlier in the day, physicians at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka installed a ring in the heart of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia following her acute heart attack.

Besides, the medical board at Evercare Hospital said that BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia suffered a coronary heart attack.

Medical Board constituted for her treatment said she needs better treatment following the heart attack, said BNP Chairperson’s personal physician Professor AZM Zahid Hossain.

Zahid Hossain further said that BNP Chairperson’s angiogram has been completed at the Evercare Hospital and stenting was done on an artery with 95 percent blockage and a ring has been put on it this afternoon.

He said the board requested family members of Khaleda Zia to take her abroad for treatment.

However, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal today said that court permission is needed to take BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia abroad for treatment.

Home Minister further said that Khaleda Zia is currently a convict in a case.

Party Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir urged the country’s people to pray for her speedy recovery.

The party chief had a ‘routine’ health check-up at the private hospital on April 6.

Khaleda Zia has been suffering from various ailments, including liver cirrhosis, arthritis, diabetes, kidney, lung and eye problems.
