Arfanul Haque Rifat took oath as mayor of the Cumilla City Corporation (CCC) on Tuesday.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina virtually administered the oath to Rifat at Osmani Memorial Auditorium from her official residence Ganabhaban in the capital.
All the 36 elected councilors of the city corporation, including nine of the reserved seats, also took oath on the day.
Local Government, Rural Development (LGRD) and Cooperatives Minister Tazul Islam administered the oath to the 36 councilors in person at the swearing-in ceremony.
The ruling Awami League nominated candidate Arfanul Haque Rifat was elected as the Mayor of Comilla City Corporation for the first time in the election held on June 15.
Arfanul Haque Rifat defeated his close rival Monirul Haque Sakku by a narrow margin of 343 votes.
