BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Tuesday (Aug 4) blamed the ruling Awami League government for the death of Noor-e- Alam and Abdur Rahim in alleged police firing in Bhola.
Fakhrul made the remarks in a brief address prior to a namaz-e-Janaza of Bhola District unit Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) President Noor-e-Alam in front of BNP’s Nayapaltan central office.
Mirza Fakhrul said that there is no greater pain than bearing the dead body of a son on the shoulder of a father.
"We are seeing in front of us the body of our son Bhola JCD President Nur-e-Alam as he was shot dead by the police forces of this fascist Awami League government," he added.
He further said that Bhola District Swechchasebak Dal leader Abdur Rahim was also shot dead while 19 more people are fighting for their lives at hospitals in Dhaka and Barisal.
Earlier on July 31, Abdur Rahim, an activist of BNP was killed and more than 50 others were injured in a clash with police during the party’s demonstration against the ongoing power cut and mismanagement in the power sector at Kalinath Roy Bazar in Sadar upazila of Bhola district.
Nure Alam suffered bullet wounds during a clash with police on that clash.
Later on, August 3, Nure Alam, who had been on life support in a hospital in Dhaka passed away, triggering protests across the country.
A total of two cases were registered against the BNP activists where more than 400 sued over clashes with police in Bhola.
