BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said the price hike of fuel oil will have a dire impact on the mass people and the country's economy as well.

He further said, “The sudden increase of fuel price in the middle of the night proved that the government is ruining the country through the horrendous corruption.”

Mirza Fakhrul made this remark during a rally organized by Jatiotabadi Chatra Dal in protest of the death of its District Chhatra Dal President Nur Alam in Bhola clash. 

He also said: "Awami League government today is surviving through corruption, killings, murders, disappearances and false cases. In the last 15 years, they disappeared more than 600 of our leaders and activists." 

“They also killed thousands of our leaders and activists. Besides, 35 lakh BNP’s activists are being harassed with false cases,” he added.

Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal president Kazi Rawnakul Islam Srabon and general secretary Saif Mahmud Jewel and others units’ leaders and activist were also present at the event. 

Earlier on August 4, BNP announced a seven-day programme, including three-day mourning, to protest the police killing of two leaders of the party’s front organisations in Bhola.

Abdur Rahim, an activist of BNP was killed and more than 50 others were injured in a clash with police on July 31, during the party’s demonstration against the ongoing power cut and mismanagement in the power sector at Kalinath Roy Bazar in Sadar upazila of Bhola district.

Nure Alam suffered bullet wounds during a clash with police on that clash.

Later on, August 3, Nure Alam, who had been on life support in a hospital in Dhaka passed away, triggering protests across the country.

A total two cases registered against the BNP activists where more than 400 sued over clashes with police in Bhola.

Earlier on July 26, BNP decided to stage demonstrations across the country protesting the ongoing load shedding and "mismanagement" in the energy sector.
