BNP has staged a demonstration programme in the capital in protesting the recent hike in fuel prices, transport fares and prices of all essential commodities.
The party began demonstrations in front of the party's Nayapaltan central office this noon (Aug 11).
BNP standing committee members and senior leaders including Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir are present at the rally.
Earlier on August 8, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced two-day demonstration programme in protest against the recent hike in diesel and kerosene prices.
Besides, the party’s all metropolitan city and district units will arrange protest rallies across the country on Friday (Aug 12).
Recently, the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources announced the increase in fuel prices.
According to the announcement, the price of diesel and kerosene has increased by Tk 34 per litre, octane by Tk 46 and petrol by Tk 44. After the price increase, diesel will be bought at Tk 114, kerosene at Tk 114, octane at Tk 135 and petrol at Tk 130.
