A Rajshahi court has sent Puthia mayor and the BNP leader Al Mamun Khan to jail in a rape case today (Sep 8). 

Rajshahi Judicial Magistrate Court Judge Abu Taleb issued the order after Mamun Khan had been produced before the court afternoon. 

Later, the court set Sunday (Sep 11) for the next hearing date as Mamun filed a bail appeal while the police filed a 5-day remand plea for him.

According to case statement, last year the raped victim met mayor regarding divorce purpose. Based on that, Mayor Mamun enticed her to take responsibility and give her a good job. In this way, he called her to different places and raped her several times.

Puthia Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sohrawardy Hossain confirmed the matter.

He said for investigating purpose, the municipal mayor needs to be interrogated. A five-day remand application has been made to the court in this regard.

Earlier on Wednesday, the police arrested him from Barguna district.
